Event description: We want to run Librarycamp 2013. It’s an unconference for up to 250 people. It’s a free event and open to anyone interested in public libraries and this year we are trying hard to attract more public library staff, customers and people from other sectors like housing and social care (rather than academic librarians). Sessions are pitched on the day and we encourage attendees to try different formats, workshops and discussions rather than traditional presentations. We want lots of discussion plus ACTION (hopefully) around the theme of innovation, user experience, community involvement and transformation in public libraries and the way we think about public libraries. We have two provisional dates either the last Saturday in September of Sat 30 November 2013.

Applicant: Matt Jukes (@jukesie)

Dates & further info: TBC

Funding agreed: £300

Event description: The format of the event will be loosely based on #opentech – except with a single stream. There will be 4 sessions throughout the day – each with 2 speakers and some time for Q&A with each session having a different ‘chair’.

The Brewery Theatre has been provisionally booked so it will be quite formal for the talks but with plenty of room for people to gather and chat in the studio area. It has a capacity of 90 people so would allow last years Gov:West a chance to grow.

A mix of gov, charity and social enterprise speakers will be invited including people from Bristol CC (including hopefully the Mayor doing an intro), GDS, the Environment Agency, the ODI, Futuregov, the ONS, Deki (a UK Kiva.org), Monmouthshire CC and the Nominet Trust.

Oh it will 95% likely be free – but maybe a fiver on the door like #opentech

Event description: MailCamp is a free show & tell event for people interested in how to use email marketing and alerts to engage their audiences.

MailCamp is a practical event of short talks mainly for and by public and charity sector folk, where we share experiences of:

what makes effective email newsletters

turning lazy marketing blurb into crisp, useful copy

how best to keep people coming back through email alerting

using email to support communities & events

the strategy side of crafting great emails

the technical side of email deliverability, design, spam, and legal traps

A big chunk of the session will be show+tell followed up with some Q&A, so we hear not just the amazing case studies, but also tales from around the room about the barriers to using email well, so you can see if others can help out with good ideas.

The 2013 UKGovcamp Grants fund is now open for business.

UKGovcamp is an event, first and foremost. It has brought together lots of folk interested in how the UK Public Sector does digital, every year since 2008.

Thanks to many lovely sponsors and the generosity of this year’s hosts, IBM, we’re able to cover the costs of UKGovcamp and have some spare to help support further events to keep the energy flowing all year round.

So UKGovcamp Grants is a small grants scheme to help get these events off the ground, with small contributions towards catering and logistics costs. We’ll consider applications on a rolling basis throughout the year for amounts normally between £100 and £500 for events that:

are for people in, or interested in, the UK public sector

are broadly about transparency, engagement or collaboration involving technology (think: websites, social media, data, email, mobile etc)

don’t have much – if any – other funding or sponsors, and need help to cover catering, venue or logistics costs

are run on a not-for-profit basis; ideally free to participants

Find out more on the Apply page, and follow the funded projects on this site.
